Robert J. Hoffman
Robert J. Hoffman, formerly of Beardstown, died Friday, Sept. 22, at Tremont Ridge Assisted Living in Hillsboro at the age of 95.
Bob was born March 21, 1922 in Beardstown, the son of Earl and Ida (Korsmeier) Hoffman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and attended school there until 8th grade, graduating from Beardstown High School in 1940. He then worked at CIPS until enlisting in the Army Air Corps. After honorable discharge, he entered the U of I Champaign and graduated with a degree in accounting. He began working for the Burroughs Corp in Detroit, Mich. until his retirement in 1989. He loved his job.
He married Dolores (Utter) Wankel on Sept. 22, 1993 in Estes Park, Colo. and she survives. They moved to Springfield and were members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where Bob served on the Mission Board for several years.
He is survived by a son, David of Warren, Mich.; sisters, Jan (William) Grant of Springfield and Carol Fricke of Petersburg; three grandchildren, Hannah, John Paul, and Nathaniel; two great-granddaughters, all of Mich. and having many cousins, nieces and nephews in this area. Preceding him in death was one son, John and two brothers, Dale and Myron (Mike).
A funeral service was held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Sager Funeral Home with burial at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Beardstown. Family will meet friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beardstown or charity of the donor’s choice.
