Muriel Frances Dodds Reddish

Muriel Frances Dodds Reddish, 96, of Virginia died Tuesday, June 5, at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.

She was born Dec. 31, 1921, at the farm of her parents, Frederick and Nellie Fielden Kirchner, in rural Chandlerville. She married William F. Dodds on Jan. 7, 1940, in Bloomfield, IA. He died in 1970. Muriel later married Dennis D. Reddish on May 12, 1972, and he preceded her in death in 2016.

She is survived by her children, Virginia Lee Dodds of Springfield and James Patrick Dodds (wife, Sara) of Virginia; three grandchildren, Robert A. Uhe (wife, Gretchen) of Springfield, William F. Dodds III of Virginia, and Jennifer E. Birdsell (husband, Kenny) of Chandlerville; a step-grandson, Corey R. McGlasson of Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Ingrid, Liesel, and Roger Uhe, all of Springfield; two step-great grandchildren, Amber McGlasson of Springfield and Dylan McGlasson of Virginia; a brother, Richard Kirchner (wife, Norma Jean) of Virginia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Nelda Henry, and a brother, Paul Kirchner.

Muriel graduated from Chandlerville High School and attended Western Illinois State Teachers College. After marriage, she taught briefly at Science Hill Grade School and was a housewife. She later worked at the Cass County USDA ASCS Office until her retirement in 1985.

Muriel was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Women’s Guild and sang in the choir for many years. She was a 63-year member of the Chandlerville Chapter of the Eastern Star, where she faithfully served in many offices including Worthy Matron. Her pastimes were her church, her family and friends, reading, quilting, and crossword puzzles.

Cremation has been accorded. Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia with Pastor Marcia Forman officiating. The family will meet friends at the church from 4 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services. Private family committal services will be held at a later date.
