Martin L. Woods April 25, 1919 - July 26, 2015

    Martin L. Woods, 96, of Rushville died at 2:51 a.m. Sunday, July 26, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
    He was born on April 25, 1919, in Franklin, the son of the late William and Ida M. (White) Woods. He married Rethyle Lawson Baker in January 1978 in Beardstown. She survives.
    Also surviving are one son, Larry Woods of Quincy; one daughter, Brenda Kautzer and husband, John, of St. Charles, Mo.; one step-son, Roger Baker and wife, Cheri, of Rushville; and one step-daughter-in-law, Cheryl Baker of Frederick; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Farrell of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law Anita Woods, one step-son Terry Baker, two sisters, Annie Brent and Mary Phelps, and three brothers, Raymond Woods, James “Wheat” Woods and Bill Clark.
    Martin started working for the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad at the age of 16. He would later volunteer to serve in the US Army during WWII. After the service he returned to the Burlington Northern Railroad where he retired on June 4, 1979.
    He attended the Rushville Free Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion and a 56-year member of the Beardstown Elks. He enjoyed yardwork, flowers, raising tomatoes and woodworking.
    Services were scheduled for Thursday, July 30, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Memorials are suggested to the Rushville Free Methodist Church or the charity of one’s choice.
