John L. Towery, 75, of Chandlerville, recently died.
He was a retired veteran of 22 and a half years. He worked for the civil service for 8 years as an office manager for Veterans Re-Adjustment Counseling, and was a member of American Legion Post 32 in Springfield.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy Towery of Havana and Sylvia Towery of Dunferline; wife Marjorie Towery of Chandlerville; brothers Robert Dean Towery, Jack Towery, Jim Towery, and Raymond Towery of Havana, Eugene Towery and Richard Towery of Canton, Ohio, and David Towery of Lewiston; and sisters Rose Justice and Susan Poler of Havana and Marilyn Ogden of Springfield.
He is survived by his second wife, Johnnie L. Towery of Harrisburg; sons John Anthony “Tony” (wife Susan) Towery of Chandlerville and Christopher (wife Julie) Towery of Beardstown; step-sons Myles H. Childress of Harrisburg and Steven L. Childress of Eldorado; daughters Stephanie (husband Donald) Goerlich of Beardstown, Bethanie Towery of Springfield, and Melodie Towery of Arenzville; step-daughter April D. Riley of Eldorado; brother Ronald Roy (wife Linda) Towery of Harrisburg; sisters Elizabeth (Jerry) Edwards and Bessie Gietl of Springfield; 23 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
