John Klingbeil

    John Kenneth “Jack” Klingbeil, 91, of Virginia, formerly of Springfield and Petersburg, passed away at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield at 7:12 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15. He was born Dec. 15, 1925 in Petersburg, to Edward and Helen (Whitenack) Klingbeil. He married Shirley Wells on Dec. 17, 1983 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives.
    Mr. Klingbeil is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Virginia; stepson, Wyonald Lee “Junior” (Jenny) Wells and stepdaughter, Angela Jean (Pat) Henson, all of Virginia; six grandchildren, Mandi (Matt) Kern, Lance (Sarah) Wells, Ashley (Quentin) Luccassen, Patrick (Amber) Henson, Heather (Chris) Dirks, and Todd Forrester as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Edward A. Klingbeil, of Highland, Ill., along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Dick Cheney, Mary Lou Bolin and Margaret Crisler, one grandson Jay Rives, and his first wife, Barbara.
    Mr. Klingbeil attended church at Calvary Temple in Springfield. He served in the US Army during WWII, where he taught RADAR. He worked for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation from 1949 until 1987, retiring as a Supervisor. He enjoyed gardening, watching hummingbirds, and traveling to Florida in the winter.
    Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m. at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Rev. Paul Rose officiated.
