Harold K. Root February 1, 1942 - May 24, 2015

    Harold K. Root, 73, of Beardstown died Sunday, May 24, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
    He was born February 1, 1942 in Schuyler County, the son of John and Sarah Robeson Root. He married Annabelle Moore and later married Linda J. Lisenbee Malone on October 3, 1986 in Palmyra, Mo. and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2014.
    Harold is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Bast of Virginia; two sons: Harold Root of Timewell and Joseph Eugene Root of Keokuk, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Teresa Jo Rayborn (Brian Riffey) of Beardstown; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Rita (Tom) Carroll of Beardstown; and two brothers: Dale (Mary) Root and Neil Root, all of Rushville. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Wyatt Dalton Rayborn and James Hudson; one granddaughter, Christina Root; and two brothers, Roger and Richard Root.
    He was employed as a truck driver for many years, most recently with DOT Foods. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post 1239 in Beardstown, Military Order of Purple Heart and the Wounded Warrior Project. Harold enjoyed woodworking and attending auctions or just tinkering around on his farm. He loved visiting with his friends and family.
    A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with military honors following at Beardstown City Cemetery.
