Eva Mae Martin Brown

October 13, 1916 - August 24, 2019

Eva Mae Martin Brown of Beardstown passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, at Heritage Health in Beardstown. She was a woman of great faith looking forward to the next chapter with her Heavenly Father.
Eva was born on October 13, 1916 in Beardstown, the daughter of Joseph R. and Nellie Vasconcellas Martin. She married Clarence Edward “Deacon” Brown of Beardstown and later married James Elledge of Springfield. After graduation from Beardstown High School, she began a successful 42 year career with Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1976.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both husbands and two sisters, Maxine Walker and Josephine Martin.
Eva is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Lyons of Durango, Colorado and Cathy Carr of Litchfield, Illinois; grandchildren, Douglas Lyons Jr. (Sheri), Stan Lyons (Nicole) Bradley Lyons M.D. (Inge) and Michael Sichlau, M.D. (Renee); ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her marriage later in life to James Elledge provided her with a wonderful second “step-family” consisting of son Paul Elledge (Leasha) and daughters Kay Wright and Nancy Elledge and their children.
Eva was a member of Beardstown Ladies Investment Club, Beardstown Womens’ Club, the Telephone Pioneers of America, and the Beardstown Branch of Community of Christ.
The family is being served by Colwell Memorial Home and Crematory, 515 State Street, Beardstown. A private family celebration of her life will be held in October. In lieu of flowers or contributions, please commit a random act of kindness in her memory.
