    Ernest Lee “Ernie” Sutterfield, 76, of Beardstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
    He was born July 20, 1944, in Beardstown, the son of Emmitt Sutterfield and Virginia Scott Sutterfield Livsey. He married Sharon Brooks on Jan. 23, 1970 ,in Beardstown.
    He is survived by his wife, Sharon Sutterfield of Beardstown; two children, Wendy L. Porch of Indianapolis, IN and Scott L. Sutterfield of Beardstown; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Pat Reeves of Barry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Tierney and Kati, two great-grandchildren Kaiden and Casey, and two brothers, Russell and Paul Sutterfield.
    Ernie attended Beardstown Schools. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he began a career at Oscar Mayer in Beardstown and retired in 1991. He took a position in North Carolina and moved back to Beardstown in 1999.
    Ernie was a member of Community of Christ Church in Beardstown. In his younger years, he coached many Little League teams and was an umpire for the Pony and Colt Leagues. He enjoyed his time at Quincy Veterans Home. Ernie liked to try his luck at the slot machines, playing poker, and Bingo. He spent many mornings feeding the ducks and geese and having a cup of coffee with his friends.
    Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Beardstown City Cemetery. Military Honors were conducted by Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post #1239 of Beardstown. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.
