Elizabeth C. Thomas, 83, of rural Virginia, died Saturday, June 25, at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
She was born July 11, 1932 in Virginia, the daughter of Harry and Mary Huffman Niestradt. She married Conley L. Thomas on Jan. 9, 1954 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia by the Rev. Wilbur Allen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Conley, on June 14, 2006; her parents; her adoptive father, Rudolph Meyer, who adopted Elizabeth after the death of her father; a brother, Gerald Niestradt; and an aunt, Nadine Lounsberry. She is survived by her extended family, farm tenants, and close friends.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Virginia High School and a long time homemaker and active partner, with her husband, in their farming operation. She was a member of Virginia United Methodist Church where she served on many committees and participated in many of their organizations. She was also a member of the Cass County Home Extension since 1954.
At her request, cremation has been accorded. Graveside committal services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 30, at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Memorial services follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Virginia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carol Stufflebeam officiating. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Cunningham Children’s Home in Urbana or Chaddock School Building Fund in Quincy. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia is in charge of the arrangements.
