Dennis D. Reddish, 93, of Virginia, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born March 7, 1922 in Noble, the son of Lucy Hill Reddish. He married Muriel Kirchner Dodds on May 12, 1972 in Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel, of Virginia and her children, Virginia Lee Dodds of Springfield and James P. Dodds (wife, Sara) of Virginia; four grandchildren, Robert Uhe (wife, Gretchen) of Springfield and William F. Dodds III, Jennifer E. Dodds, and Corey McGlasson, all of Virginia; and five great grandchildren, Ingrid, Liesel, and Roger Uhe, all of Springfield, Amber McGlasson of Oakford, and Dylan McGlasson of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, his maternal grandfather, Emerson Hill, who helped raise him, and a brother, Bill Reddish.
Dennis graduated from Virginia High School in 1942 and served with the US Army Air Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. With a background in engineering, he worked with Caterpillar in Peoria and later with Fiat-Allis in Springfield from where he retired. During his retirement, Dennis served many years as the Virginia Township Clerk.
An avid outdoorsman, Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a talented trapshooter and was named the Illinois State Trapshooting Champion in 1969.
Cremation has been accorded. Memorial services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia. The family will meet friends at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of services. Private family committal services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to Walker Nursing Home Activity Fund or Future Farmers of America at Virginia High School.
