Charlotte Janice Maurer Erickson, 82, of Houston, Texas and formerly of Virginia, passed away July 4, in Houston, Texas.
She was born April 3, 1935, to George and Charlotte Suffern Maurer of Cass County. She is survived by her husband, Milton Tidd Erickson of Houston, Texas, and her daughter, Carrie Linne Erickson of Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George, Robert, and John Maurer; sister, Alice Jean “Cleo” Heller, and two children, Keith Barrett Erickson and Charlotte Linne Erickson.
She was educated in the Cass County school systems, and received her degree from Blackburn College in 1954. She did additional studies at the University of Chicago and the University of Houston – Downtown.
In Houston, as well as being a homemaker and mother of three, she was active in the Girl Scouts program, later becoming a Girl Scout leader. She was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, eventually becoming a lay minister. She also served as a hospice volunteer. Finally, she was the family historian and genealogist, which endeared her to all those in the family.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Virginia. Her ashes will be interred in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of customary remembrances, a donation may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia is in charge of the arrangements.
