Hooray for the good ole USA

Carli Lloyd scores hat trick

The USA Girls Soccer team turned a 14-minute blitz into a World Cham-pionship as they defeated Japan 5-2 to lay claim to their record third World Cup championship and first since 1999.
Carli Lloyd, the game’s MVP, won the Golden Boot Award for scoring the “Hat Trick” (three goals). This was the first hat trick ever in a World Cup final. Two of Lloyd’s goals came in a span of two minutes as the US team took a quick 2-0 lead four minutes into the game, stunning the proud Japanese squad.
The scoring blitz by the USA squad came in the first 16 minutes of the contest, as the Red, White and Blue hit the Japanese team with a four-goal scoring blitz. “I was on a mission,” Lloyd said. “I was on a mission to help my team win this game. I am so proud of every member of this team, we just made history.”
