Virginia Council puts pet owners on cleanup notice

Pooper scooper sellers stand ready to clean up in Virginia after the city council gave its approval to the first reading of an animal waste ordinance.
The ordinance will require the owners of dogs and other domestic animals to “promptly remove” feces “on any public property or any privately owned property” other than property owned by the pet owner, keeper or person with the animal. Violators will be subject to fines.
The ordinance will be considered for final approval at the July 13 council meeting.
