Beardstown school board considers new physical security improvements at schools
Security issues were a dominant discussion topic at last week’s Beardstown School Board meeting.
The board discussed but took no action on hiring a police officer to patrol the hallways of the middle school/high school and Gard School complex, and also discussed a proposed physical security upgrade at all the district’s facilities.
District Superintendent Ron Gilbert told the board if they decided to employ a school resource officer, the district would reimburse the city for the officer’s salary nine months out of the year. The city would be able to use the officer to meet its needs when school is not in session. Gilbert estimated the cost to the district to be around $30,000. <ahref="http://etypeservices.com/Cass%20County%20Star%20GazetteID497/"><spanstyl... 13px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.</span></a></p>
