State Treasurer Frerichs outlines programs that benefit taxpayers

Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs was in Beardstown Monday to offer insights into programs administered by the treasurer’s office.

Speaking in front of a small group of business, financial and elected officials Frerichs used a mix of facts and humor to explain the duties and responsibilities of his office.

“My job is to invest Illinois’ money and get the highest return on investment that I can,” Frerichs said. The treasurer went on to say people often respond with “Since Illinois is broke, you must not have a lot to do.”

“But before we get too far into this, there’s one question I want to get out of the way. And the answer to that question is 6’8,” he said referring to his towering stature. “That’s the question I get asked most.” &nbsp;&nbsp;<ahref=""><spanstyl... 13px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.</span></a></p>
