Area Fire/EMS services receive grant funding

Beardstown Ambulance, Virginia Fire Department each receive funding

The Beardstown Ambulance Service, Beardstown Fire Department, and Virginia Volunteer Fire Department are the beneficiaries of a grant program administered by the Office of the State Fire Marshall, and received notice of their funding this week.

According to the Illinois State Fire Marshall, one hundred fire departments and nonprofit ambulance services across the state received grants for the purchase of safety equipment, protective clothing, breathing apparatus and other needed tools. The money for this grant comes from the Fire Prevention Fund. The grants total $2.2 million, with each recipient receiving up to $26,000.

“Firefighters do not hesitate to put themselves in harm’s way to battle fires, to save lives and to keep us safe,” said Governor Bruce Rauner at a Collinsville event where the grants were announced. “It is our job to ensure they have the equipment needed to stay safe. This grant ensures fire departments are better equipped, allowing first responders to more effectively and safely do their jobs.” &nbsp;&nbsp;<ahref=""><spanstyl... 13px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.</span></a></p>
