‘Bud’ Knippenberg: volunteer and friend

It was Fall Festival time again, a time when Christine and I enjoyed coming back to Beardstown. It was such a wonderful time for us to see friends and be part of the festival, which was made possible by many, many volunteers. I remember writing previously about Beardstown being one of the best places to live because of the large number of volunteers who make the town more special. I want to write this column about Harry “Bud” Knippenberg.
He would always be at the table in the park selling the 50-50 chances, and he served for years on the Fall Festival Committee.  Just a couple of years ago, a plaque as a memorial for Bud was placed on the stage in the City Park in appreciation of the many years of volunteer service that he gave on the Fall Festival Committee.
