Ivan “Gene” Parks, 83, of Macomb and formerly of Frederick died Tuesday, April 12, at his residence.
He was born April 12, 1933 in Beardstown, the son of Floyd, Sr. and Hazel Dell Harris Parks.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Parks Uhlmann of Huntington, W. Va. and Linda (Tim) Branch of Macomb; one son, John (Idsia) Parks of Carolina, Puerto Rico; three grandchildren, Mallory (fiancé, Andrew Vail) Thompson of Macomb, Jose (Jessica) Rodriguez of Hawaii and John Anthony Parks of Carolina, Puerto Rico; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Floyd H. “Bill” Parks, Jr; one half-brother, Raymond Thompson; and one half-sister, Helen Lenore Thompson.
Mr. Parks was a 1951 graduate of Macomb High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as a railroad estimator for C B & Q and Burlington Northern Railroad for over fifteen years. Following his time with the railroad, Gene spent many years working as a handyman. He had an interest in genealogy, archeology, and was an avid reader.
A graveside service was held 1 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Beardstown City Cemetery where military honors were given by Guthrie Pierce VFW Post 1239. There will be no formal visitation.
