Virginia School Board OKs new track, pay hikes, increased deficit
Pushing aside concerns about future state aid and an expanding structural deficit, the Virginia School Board Monday evening voted 5-2 to spend about $200,000, and possibly more, on a rebuilt athletic running track.
The divided board approved the bid submitted by Laverdiere Construction in Macomb. A year ago, the board wrangled with Laverdiere Construction when the company realized its contract for the new playground and tennis courts would result in a significant financial loss.
President Sheila Logsdon and board members Dustin Fritsche, Casey French, Tim Krause, and Gary Bell cast the five favorable votes. Matt Werner and Kara Lynch voted “no.”
