Illinois River finally falling at Beardstown

After flirting with the 29-foot mark and the possibility of a new record high, drier weather has allowed the Illinois River to crest and begin falling.
The river reached a crest of 28.83 feet May 8-9 and (barring significant rainfall in the Illinois basin) is expected to drop below 27 feet by the weekend.
