Demolition commences on Monroe Street home

A residence located at the corner of Monroe and 7th Streets in Beardstown was demolished last week, marking the end of a lengthy effort by city workers.
The residence is the fifth house torn down by the city in the past 16 months, according to Councilman Tim Harris. City demolitions have also included four outbuildings, and an additional three houses have been taken down by citizens.
“A lot of work goes into these projects prior to demolition,” Harris stated. “There’s a lot of research and legal work that needs to be done.”
