Cass Rural Water ready to expand

    With a total of $721,500 in funding, the Cass Rural Water District (CRWD) will in a matter of weeks begin construction of an 8.5-mile line that will add at least 33 new customers.
    Meeting in Virginia on Tuesday, the CRWD Board of Directors closed on a loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program. CRWD also is receiving another USDA grant.
    Weather permitting, C&S Companies of New London, Mo. expects to begin construction the first week of February. The extension, which will run north from Virginia along Ill. Rte. 78, may be completed as soon as March 1, though severe winter weather could delay work.
