Carey awarded IPPA scholarship

Shelby Carey of Beardstown has been selected as a recipient of a $2,000 Gold Scholarship from the Illinois Pork Producers Association for the 2016-17 school year. Each year, IPPA offers scholarships to students pursuing a higher education degree (at a two or four-year institution) who have a background in the pork industry. Recipients are selected based on activity involvement, GPA, and an essay detailing how the student plans to contribute to the pork industry in the future.
A total of $13,500 in scholarship money was distributed to nine students this year out of 40 applicants. Three levels of scholarships were available: gold, silver, and bronze. Funding for these scholarships is made possible through the Wilbert & Carol Keppy Foundation.
