A-C board concerned with state, federal developments
The A-C Central board discussed several developments in Springfield and Washington D.C. concerning education. A school bus seatbelt bill in Springfield, state education funding, and a new education secretary in Washington were at the forefront.
Superintendent Tim Page shared his concerns on a bill moving through the Illinois legislature that would mandate seatbelts and school buses. He said that the requirement would lower capacity on school buses, increasing the number of buses a school district needs and with it, the number of bus routes, drivers, and bus aides to assist students with the safety belts. All of this would raise transportation costs.
