A-C accepts repair bids

The A-C Central School Board voted at last week’s regular meeting to accept bids on repairs to the Chandlerville plumbing and boiler. Doyle Plumbing and Heating got the contract with a $90,000 bid. Because there is asbestos covering on the boiler pipes, asbestos abatement has to be part of the project. That contract went to General Waste for $12,500. The work is expected to be completed over the summer.
Superintendent Tim Page spoke on the situations schools face with the state budget situation, describing it as “the typical doom and gloom.” He said there is talk of some Illinois schools not opening in the fall, but A-C has a cash reserve that will keep it operating. He also said the school funding bill SB 231 had been passed out of committee but was unlikely to make immediate headway in the Senate.
