Bluffs continues search for new Police Chief

The Village of Bluffs is still accepting applications for Police Chief. Current Chief Matt Smith informed trustees during the regular Council meeting held on March 1 that there had been no interest so far. Also from the Police report, Chief Smith will be looking at bids on the purchase of a replacement for the squad car. The squad car being used  is currently 14 years old and some equipment has been malfunctioning.
Randy Stevens from the IMRF was a guest at the March meeting of the board. Smith explained the role of the Illinois Municipalities Retirement Fund and some of the benefits employees can receive, such as a disability benefit after 12 months on the job and a retirement fund as well as a death benefit paid to survivors. Trustees voted to conduct a cost study based on a 1,000-hours-worked-per-year example before committing to an agreement.
