Beardstown receives legislative grants for marina project

Grant money for the marina and harbor projects topped discussion at Tuesday night’s Beardstown City Council meeting.
Reggie Benton, the city’s consulting engineer, told the council the final paperwork had been received from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that would allow the city to enter an agreement with IDNR for the construction of a camp ground and improvements at the marina.  The grant will provide the city with $400,000 to be applied to the project with the city providing $140,000 to the more than half-million dollar project. “That’s about a 74-26 percent cost share for this project, and you just don’t see that kind of funding very often,” Benton said.
