Beardstown Fire Chief resigns amid funding, staffing appropriation debate

Beardstown Fire Chief Heath White tendered his resignation to Beardstown Mayor Leslie Harris Monday, leaving the city’s fire and ambulance departments without an administrator.

White’s resignation comes four months after the Beardstown City Council entered into an agreement under which the City of Beardstown would provide ambulance service to Eastern Cass County after MECCA ambulance service ceased operations at the end of February.

During the negotiations that led to the agreement, White said he would not accept administrative responsibility for the fire department, the Beardstown ambulance operation and the new Virginia operation while working the typical 24 hour on, 48 hours off staffing at the fire house. &nbsp;&nbsp;<ahref=""><spanstyl... 13px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.</span></a></p>
