Beardstown Council approves new insurance policy

    The Beardstown City Council approved a consideration to award the work comp and liability insurance coverage in the amount of $252,667 to Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust for the period Dec. 1, 2015 to Nov. 30, 2016. The plan cost increased this year due to an influx in Work Comp claims, but ultimately the council felt that the plan was worth approving.
    A member from the public expressed the opinion that the city should be taking measures to cut down on claims, but both Cathy Redshaw and Gary Hamilton assured him that city employees participate in many safety courses and training. Alderman Harris said that he believes the city should continue taking advantage of these measures, but all in attendance agreed that accidents do happen
