Beardstown city council tables dispatch proposal
The Beardstown City Council tabled a proposed agreement with the Cass County ETSB for dispatching services.
Chairman Devron Ohrn told the council that they could look elsewhere for services, but he did not anticipate the cost would be lower. Ohrn went on to say that the board has worked to provide a good service tailored to Beardstown and other Cass communities. He pointed out the board tries to hire Cass County residents when possible and currently employs two Spanish-speaking dispatchers.
Alderman Ron Culves asked why the increases detailed in the contract were necessary (five percent for one year or three, four, and five percent for a three-year contract) because ETSB has shown a profit for the last several years. Ohrn said the surplus is kept on hand for repair and replacement costs, whichmustbetaken care of in a timely manner. Culves said according to figures he received from the county, the ETSB had more than $740,000 in financial reserves, an amount he described as enough to fund operations for nearly 3 years. <ahref="http://etypeservices.com/Cass%20County%20Star%20GazetteID497/"><spanstyl... 13px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.</span></a></p>
