Beardstown area levees holding
Despite flooding alerts and evacuations in various parts of the state, Beardstown levees appear to be holding as of Tuesday.
No major concerns have been noted as the Beardstown Regional Flood Prevention District resumed daily meetings this week.
Elizabeth Bruns, a hydraulic engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers, said the agency has had eight persons patrolling the Illinois River with two of them dedicated to this area. As of Wednesday at 6:45 a.m., the river stage at Beardstown was 28.64 feet, predicted to crest at 28.7.
However, more chances of rain were in the forecast, and the river could start to rise again, she said at Tuesday’s meeting, noting the highest potential is Friday through the weekend.
