B’town Council OKs pay raises for most department heads

no action taken on police chief’s salary

In a meeting Monday night to discuss the appropriations for the 2018- ’19 fiscal year, the Beardstown City Council’s finance committee recommended a modest pay and bonus package for most city department heads.

The council agreed to a $1,200 annual raise for the director of public works, fire chief, water superintendent and cemetery sexton, but took no action on a pay hike for the police chief.

The consensus around the table indicated the council would act on any potential increase pending the outcome of legal proceedings involving the police chief.

In deciding the amount of the administrative pay hikes, it was pointed out the dollar amount to be spent for department head raises was roughly in line with that received by city’s union workers. &nbsp;&nbsp;<ahref="http://etypeservices.com/Cass%20County%20Star%20GazetteID497/"><spanstyl... 13px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.</span></a></p>
