Ameren, Menard customers affected by power outage

Though last Thursday’s electricity outage was both small and brief, it serves as a reminder that residents need to be prepared for more serious events as winter approaches.

About 1,600 Ameren Illinois customers in and around Virginia as well as a small number of Menard Electric Cooperative customers lost power at about 10:25 a.m. last Thursday. According to an Ameren Illinois spokesperson, service was restored to about 1,000 customers in approximately 30 minutes. All of the remaining customers had service restored no later than 1 p.m. The spokesperson said the outage was caused when a portion of a storm damaged tree fell onto an Ameren Illinois 69,000- volt subtransmission line. <ahref=""><spanstyl... 13px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.
