New law expands property tax relief for disabled vets

On Aug. 17, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner signed SB 107 into law as Public Act 99-0375. This will expand the allowable homestead property exemption relief to disabled veterans throughout Illinois.
Cass County Supervisor of Assessments Theresa Cooper reports that there are nearly 45 service veterans in Cass County receiving the current disabled veteran’s exemptions, and this expansion will allow additional relief to more county residents with a service-connected disability. She plans to visit with local veterans groups to answer any questions and provide the newly-released exemption forms for those who need them.
