Melvin “Buddy” Taylor, 76, Beardstown, died Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.

He was born May 10, 1946 in Beardstown, the son of Lyle and Mabel Parks Taylor, Sr.

He is survived by two sisters, Hazel (husband Bob) Merrick and Mary (husband Jerry) Bell; three brothers, Keith O’Hara, David (wife Chris) Taylor, and Lloyd Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers, Kenny O’Hara, James, Robert, Ivan, Mervin, Floyd, Jerry, Raymond, and Lyle, Jr Taylor, and a sister, Shirley Applegate.

Buddy attended Beardstown Schools and then joined the United States Army and honorably served in the Vietnam War. He retired from Oscar Mayer in Beardstown and later from Wal-Mart. Buddy enjoyed country music, dancing, and telling stories and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was a member of Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post #1239 of Beardstown.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the Beardstown City Cemetery. There was no visitation. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown assisted the family.
