Mayor and police chief remain at stalemate

The issue regarding the recent resignation of Beardstown Police Chief Roy Hurst appears to be at a standstill following a meeting of the city’s Personnel Committee meeting Monday.
As of Tuesday, it appeared that although both Mayor Steve Patterson and the chief of police were still willing to negotiate an agreement, it remained at a stalemate.
Chief Roy Hurst said that he was still willing to consider the possibility of remaining in his position as the chief of police, but that because Mayor Patterson had already accepted his resignation, “the ball is in his court.”
