Many different ways of making money

A few weeks ago, 92-year-old Henrietta Thompson, a cancer survivor, was the oldest woman to ever finish a marathon. She is just one of the thousands who run for their health — true, the doctors say running or walking is the best exercise. Many of the runs are a money-making way by organizations that need more than the annual donations they receive. There is the Run (or Walk) for Cancer, The MS Challenge Walk, The Relay for Life, The St. Jude Children’s Run, The Athritic Foundation Walk, etc.
A few weeks ago our granddaughter, Jessica, her husband Andy, and their five-year-old twins were here visiting their parents and us — the great-grandparents of their twins. Jessica, who went to school through college here in Bloomington-Normal, has a hobby of running for fun. The Run for Easter Seals was taking place while she was here so she entered. It was a beautiful spring day running around Lake Bloomington. Her twins became very excited as their mother won the lady’s half-marathon and their Dad was fourth in the men’s division. Jessica also was running for Michael, as she had joined an “I Run 4” organization. Michael is a handicapped fourth-grade boy who lives in Mexico. She mailed him her t-shirt and medal from the race and received a letter from his mother saying that Michael wore the shirt and medal to school, so proud to tell his classmates about it.
