Listen to your coach

Undoubtedly my favorite sport is baseball. I never could play it, but I’ve always loved to watch it. And unashamedly, I’m an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

On a 6th grade field trip, I was able to sit in the Cardinal dugout and run onto the field – and I’ve been hooked on Cardinal baseball ever since. I suspect I will always be a proud member of Cardinal Nation!

Leo Hauser, in a book entitled “Five Steps to Success,” tells this story about Jim Kaat, who in his 25- year career in Major League Baseball, pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1980-83. Kaat traces his success back to spring training in 1966. The Twins had acquired a new pitching coach, Johnny Sain, who silently watched his pitchers perform. Then one by one, he called them in for a personal chat. &nbsp;&nbsp;<ahref=""><spanstyl... 13px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.</span></a></p>
