How would we treat Bible figures?

I sometimes like to imagine what it would look like if the Bible story and especially what follows it happened in Beardstown. How would we treat the characters in the story? Would all the churches step up and help? I like to think we would. But the truth in the Bible stories is that it did not happen.
    I am pretty sure one story most people have in common is the story of Zacchaeus meeting Jesus (Luke 19:1-10) You probably sang this story in Vacation Bible School. You remember the song starts out: “Zacchaeus was a wee little man.”

    In last week’s Focus, I wrote about two doors listed in the Scriptures. One door was an open door which God gives as an invitation to hope and our calling, an open door which no one can shut.
