Volunteering: A life-long dream realized

Editor:
I am Rick Taylor. I am a full-time paramedic with the Beardstown Fire and Ambulance Service. I have been in the medical field since 1984 working for an ambulance service/ER or working as a cardiovascular tech. It has been a life-long dream of mine to have the ability to go volunteer with an agency during a natural disaster. On Sept. 13, my life-long dream came true and I was deployed with the Red Cross to go to Florida. Prior to deployment I spent a weekend in Moline, learning all about the Red Cross and what a wonderful organization and services it involves. After my intake classes I did the Health Services classes online and became a Red Cross Health Service worker. My plan was then to talk with Chief Heath White and Mayor Leslie Harris about my life-long dream. They were both very supportive of my goals.
