The supposed leaf-burning problem

We are writing this letter in response to last week’s letter on leaf burning dates found on page three. The statement, “with only two more weekends remaining when leaf burning might take place” is inaccurate. The council passed the ordinance, which was published in this paper, that leaf burning may take place on the Saturdays of both October and November (also April). The council decided that on Halloween, leaf burning would not be allowed, as it was a safety issue for small children walking.
The letter also stated that in the past we could “bag up their yard waste and have it hauled away as a free service.” No service in Beardstown, or any other community, is free! Our city council is charged with the task of trying to provide all of the services they can to the citizens while maintaining financial responsibility.
