Memories of how Beardstown used to be

As we age we often think of happy memories of our “home town.” I was born in Beardstown in 1948 and lived there for my first 10 years. I have many happy memories of those years.
I remember birthday parties. I remember being able to walk all over town in complete safety. I remember 6th street, my street, lined with red bricks.
I vividly remember my childhood friends, Sara Jane, Patsy, Diane, and Mimi, to name a few. I’m not sure why these memories are seared into my brain. I remember Delta Tank and the swimming pool across the street that my father pushed for. I will never forget getting candy at the Smoke Shop or hamburgers at the Campus Inn with the Osmer kids.
