Board of Education responsibilities

As a past member and president of the Beardstown Education Board, I can appreciate the time, sacrifice, and dedication it takes to serve. But it also takes responsibility and the ability to vote with one’s own conscience.
The school board should be a democracy, not a dictatorship!
The use of district money to finance early retirement for a superintendent, and pay $20,000 for his replacement to come in early, is ludicrous.
Then to cut extracurriculars because of financial restraint is totally irresponsible.
The Beardstown community has always stepped up to help when needed, but should not be used to fill in the hole of irresponsible spending!
