Brasstown’s opossum and New Year’s Eve

    Dang! I love those folks down in Brasstown, N.C., especially Clay and Judy Logan.
    Before we get to Brasstown, let’s go back to the Roman Empire. Julius Caesar was running things when he noticed the calendar was out of sync with the sun. So he consulted his astronomers and math wizards. They solved the problem by adding 90  days to the calendar. Voila! The Julian calendar was invented. As part of the reform, Caesar declared Jan. 1 as the start of the new year.
