Big Muddy arrives in Illinois

A couple of weeks ago we considered the Piasa, but not all fantastic creatures are quite so ancient.
    Let’s go back to Monday, June 25, 1973, in the city of Murphysboro on the Muddy River.
    The weather was pleasantly warm and the day had been rather ordinary. Out on the edge of town, a couple sat in a parked car. Maybe they were stargazing or perhaps gazing into each other’s eyes. Whatever they were doing, they were startled by an ear-piercing scream. Then, they would claim, they saw an enormous creature amble out of the nearby timber.
