John R. Cosner, 88, rural Ashland, died Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 15, 1934, in Beardstown, the son of Thomas Alfred and Catherine Drinkwater Cosner. He married Eleanor J. Plattner on Oct. 21, 1956, in Ashland, and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Jeff R. (Beth) Cosner of rural Ashland; two daughters, Pam (Tim) Frye of Shumway, and Angela Cosner of rural Ashland; five grandchildren, Curtis (Keri) Cosner, Lesley (Chris) Turner, Chase (Alex) Cosner, Jason (Brittany) Frye, and Ross (Sarah) Frye; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers and one sister, Tom Cosner, Mary Cosner, and Joe Cosner.
Mr. Cosner was a graduate of Ashland High School and then joined the United States Navy. Following his service, he came home and was engaged in farming with his father, Alfred. He was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church and Ashland VFW Post #3546.
A funeral service was held Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Ashland Cemetery. The family met with friends prior to the service at the funeral home.
