In addition to her husband, Jessie was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gale A. Lewis of Quincy; two great-granddaughters, Sarah Grace Winklejohn and Malina Pyle; and two sisters, Mary Lou Dickman and Dixie Lee Wood.
Jessie was a graduate of Beardstown High School’s class of 1946. She went on to own a business called “End of the Line” for five years, which sold tropical fish and birds.
She absolutely loved to travel. A couple of her favorite destinations were Lake of the Oaks and Nauvoo. When she wasn’t traveling, home was her favorite place to be. She enjoyed sitting on her back porch or spending time in her backyard garden, which was full of the prettiest day lilies, irises, and red tulips. Jessie was a member of the Red Hat Society and an active volunteer at both North Adams Home in Mendon, and many other places. Her family was unceasingly most important to her, and they always looked forward to the special treat of one of her homemade cakes on their birthdays. Sewing and quilting, spending time with her dog Azera, reading spiritual books, and watching Dr. Phil were a few of her other favorite things. Jessie was a very loving, caring, and loyal person who will be deeply missed.
She was a member of the Community of Christ Church, and became an ordained minister herself in the 1980s. A Funeral Ceremony will be at 1:30 pm Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. Pastor Larry Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Beardstown City Cemetery in Beardstown, IL. Friends and Family are invited to Jessie’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Thursday, May 20, immediately preceding the service, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm at the O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home.
