Jean Carmean Klopfer, 88, rural Arenzville, died Thursday March 23, 2023 at her home.
She was born August 20, 1934 in Macon County, the daughter of the late Troy and Stella Howard Hutchings. Jean grew up on the family farm near Glasgow and graduated from Winchester High School. She married William E. Carmean October 11, 1952 in Manchester. He preceded her in death after 49 years of marriage August 30, 2001. She later married Ernest Klopfer on February 14, 2008. He preceded her in death July 26, 2022. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Mary Lou Hutchings, brother, Howard Hutchings and a great grandson.
She worked as a nanny in Lake Forest, while Bill was serving in the Army in Japan. Her faith in God was tremendous and she lived her life accordingly. The most important things for her were her church, family and friends. She was a wonderful mother, a dear friend and a very giving person. She was always active in her church, serving in numerous capacities on the local and the association level. She enjoyed growing and gardening both vegetables and flowers.
She is survived by her children, Donna Davis (Denny) of Normal, Rodger Carmean (Cheryl Camp) of Winchester, Ken Carmean of Meredosia; grandchildren, Cathy Coleman, Bill Ventimiglia, Doug and Luke Carmean; five great grandchildren; daughter in law, Ronda Carmean, brother-in-law, George Carmean (Mary Ann); sisters -in law, Janet Carmean and Peggy Hutchings, as well as many nieces and nephews and all of Ernest Klopfer’s family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday April 5, 2023 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
