Janet Mary “Jan” Hardwick, 67, Ashland, died at 6:51 a.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.
She was born on October 2, 1954, in Chicago, the daughter of Emmett and Elizabeth Agnes Hughes Grilec. She married Walter “Sam” Hardwick on December 30, 1988, in Springfield.
Jan was a 1972 graduate of Bremen High School in Midlothian, IL. She worked for the State Treasurer’s Office for several years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She then held various positions at Memorial Medical Center until her health declined. Jan was very active with the St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Virginia, where she served on the building committee, the church council, and as a PSR teacher. She was previously on the Virginia School Board. Through the years, Jan enjoyed antiques, scrapbooking, perusing facebook, crafting, watching the Hallmark channel and soap operas, and was a fan of Lucille Ball as well as the Golden Girls.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Elizabeth Hardwick and her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Sam Hardwick of Ashland; one son, Morgan Hardwick of Springfield; one daughter, Valerie Hardwick of Virginia; three siblings, Gerry (wife, Renee) Grilec of Union Pier, MI, Maureen (husband, Fred) Dinger of Frankfort, and Jack (wife, Kim) Grilec of Tinley Park; four nieces; one nephew; and black lab, Lizzie.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
