James Robert Smith

    James (Jimmy, Crazy Legs, Bubbles) Robert Smith went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 23, 2020.
    He was a husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many. He was born Jan. 7, 1937, in Virginia, Illinois. He graduated from Virginia High School and went on to Western Illinois to play three sports. He married his high school sweetheart June 3, 1957 and was a devoted husband and father of five.
    He served in the Army National Guard for five years. After settling in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1984, he was the owner of Preferred Coatings of St. Augustine. As a devout Christian, he was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church. He was the treasurer for the St. Augustine Chapter of The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Smith and Helen Wright Smith of Virginia, his brother H.B Smith of Virginia, his wife of 60 years, Donna Carol Rossi Smith of St. Augustine, daughter Carrie Lynn Smith of St. Augustine and son Jay Marshall Smith of Jacksonville, Florida.
    Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Virginia Leigh Smith of St. Augustine, son Gregg William Smith of St. Augustine (Holly Howard Smith), daughter Katie Smith Lane of Elkton, Florida (David C. Lane Jr.), brother C.O. Smith of Jacksonville, Illinois, sister-in-law Mary Jo Smith of Virginia, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
